Employee Training
Universal Security Systems is committed to excellence in environmental protection, employee health and safety. Universal has developed a comprehensive training program for all of our employees. Each employee has a baseline training requirement that includes training in the following areas:
· Aerial Lift Safety
· Asbestos Awareness
· Bloodborne Pathogens
· Electrical Safety
· Fire Safety
· Hazard Communication
· Lead Safety
· Ladder Safety
· Personal Protective Equipment
· Respiratory Protection (including medical evaluation and clearance)
Supervisor Training
Advanced training in the following areas is also provided to employees who will be engaging in these activities:
· Confined Space Permits and Entry
· Confined Space Rescue
· Electrical Lockout / Tagout
· Excavation, Trenches and Shoring
· Welding Safety
Many of our field supervisors and managers pursue advanced environmental. Health and safety including certification in hazardous material operations and emergency response as well as certifications in emergency medical services.
Safety Equipment
All employees are issued their own safety equipment kit. This provides for any employee to have the proper PPE without having to track down or borrow equipment on the site. The safety equipment kit includes a hard hat, fall arrest harness, work gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, respirator and protective latex gloves. Universal’s policies provide for no questions asked replacement of this equipment in the event it is lost or damaged. Universal also replaces equipment such as harnesses in compliance with the manufacturers recommendations.
Universal supervisors also have access to a variety of specialized protective and safety equipment. This includes retractable safety lines, protective coveralls, hazardous gas sensors for confined space, HEPA vacuums, negative pressure work tents, specialized face shields and foot protectors for jackhammer work and specialized personal protective equipment for welding as well as many other special safety equipment.
Vehicle Safety
Universal Security Systems vehicles are all equipped and configured to maximize worksite safety. All of our vehicles are thoroughly maintained and serviced by manufacturer certified technicians. Our aerial lifts are inspected on an annual basis to meet ANSI and OSHA requirements. Our service vehicles are all equipped with multiple warning lights as well as reflective lettering for maximum visibility. Each vehicle is equipped with a construction first aid kit, fire extinguisher, bloodborne pathogen kit and “Attack Pack” spill kit. Supervisor vehicles are also equipped with additional emergency medical resources depending on supervisor training.
EH&S
Universal has been working under strict environmental, health and safety standards for almost 10 years with an excellent track record. Universal has a comprehensive Health and Safety Plan that has been approved by major utilities and industrial clients for hundreds of projects.
Universal employees have been trained and have years of experience working and hazardous and industrial sites such as generating facilities, substations, gas and process plants as well as hospitals.
Universal has been highlighted by Con Edison for its commitment to environment, health and safety and was featured in a Con Edison produced safety video for the Astoria Complex.
